Leaves

I have to admit, when I read my Photo of the Day Challenge cue today and saw that it was 'Leaves' I was somewhat disheartened. The topic seemed a bit boring and although we are almost a month into Autumn in Australia, where we live, Autumn isn't really a thing so there are no colourful crunchy leaves on the ground to photograph.

While outside doing the laundry I gazed around at all the trees and plants around me trying to think of something related to 'leaves' to photograph. Which is when I had the thought to do a shot with my daughter standing behind some leaves, maybe with some covering her face. but still, trying to find a suitable tree with a decent amount of foliage around her height proved difficult. It was not until we were heading out for the day that I noticed the Bougainvillea tree on the edge of the driveway and immediately knew I could do something with that.

While I ended up being quite rushed in taking this photo as the sun was setting and the rain clouds were rolling in, I am actually really happy with this shot. After years of having her photograph taken so many times my daughter has very little interest in posing for me any more but I am really happy with how she helped me out this afternoon. I love the colours of those bright pink Bougainvillea flowers surrounding my beautiful girl, matching with her flowery dress and the purple flower she decided to put in her hair.

It really is wonderful to have such beauty right here in my life.
